University of Malaysia Pahang (UMP)
One of the Malaysian government universities is University of Malaysia Pahang (UMP). This is a technical university that offers technical courses like engineering. This technical university was established by Malaysian government 8 years in 2002 for people. Under the act of 1971 that was university and university colleges act, University of Malaysia Pahang was recognized as a technical university that offers technical courses. Another name for university of Malaysia is ‘The University College of Engineering and Technology’. This university has a provisional campus currently in Pahang because the original or the permanent campus is situated in Pekan that is under construction.
The temporary campus that is situated in Pahang was previously an industrial compound. This university was renamed by Malaysian government on 8th October, 2006 as Universiti Malaysia Pahang. The former name that was The University College of Engineering and Technology leaves thought on people mind that this university is a low standard university when compared to other universities for higher education. This was also in the mind of employers that the pass out of this university are not that much capable. Due to all these reasons Malaysian government agreed to change the universities name. This change in name has also changed the wrong mind set up of public about this university.
There are total of 17 departments and 7 faculties in the university. Various facilities are offered by this university. Let us discuss some of them.
Internet: this is the first Asian university to provide wireless internet access. Both teachers and students have an access to wireless internet connection that is Wi-Fi. There re also LAN connections through which they can connect to internet.
Library: all the books for each department are available in the library. There is also proper place to study along with study material.
Laboratories: labs are fully equipped with all the required equipments.
Sports: all the sports related facilities are also available like basket ball court, field etc.
